Monday Morning Motivation – Present

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Present

For the past 57 days I’ve started each day with a brief ten minute meditation session.  While I’d heard people speak positively about the concept, I’d always avoided it as it seemed a bit “woo woo” or “fluffy” to me.  I was wrong…

For ten minutes each day my focus has been on one thought:

  • Be present and aware

For these ten minutes I’ve focused on NOT thinking about what happened yesterday and NOT thinking about what I’m going to do today.  I’ve focused on how I feel and what is going on around me.  I’ve focused on NOT having any thoughts at all.  Just “being”.

It has proven to be incredibly hard.  And incredibly rewarding!

At the end of the session, I open my eyes and feel totally relaxed and refreshed. For ten minutes I was free of the burdens of yesterday and the burdens of today.  I simply focused on the moment.  Focused on being present and aware.

You may decide that meditation is not for you.  That’s fine.  But I would challenge you to consider the benefit you can receive by REALLY focusing on being present and aware for a few moments during your day today.

What would it be like if you didn’t think about what just happened or what’s about to happen?  What would happen if you were totally focused on what is going on right now with you and the environment around you?  How would things be different if you put all of your energy in being present in the moment with what is taking place?

For me, the ten minutes in the morning have allowed me to practice being present and aware.  I’ve found that this practice is bleeding over to how I approach things during the day.  And the results are definitely to my liking!

That brings us to this week’s challenge?

  • Are you willing to be present and aware as you interact with others this week?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
