Monday Morning Motivation – Excitement

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Excitement

(Note:  Each week I publish “Monday Morning Motivation” in the hopes that one person will find a bit of inspiration and that inspiration will have a positive impact on their life.  My motivation comes from experiences, reading, sermons, and discussions.  For the next several months I’m going to be drawing from Zig Ziglar’s book “Over the Top”.  It’s a great source of inspiration and wisdom and I would be remiss if I didn’t give him credit up front for the motivation)

The last two weeks I’ve written about “enthusiasm” and “positive thinking”.  Today I’m taking on “excitement”.

This one is a little tricky.  On the one hand, I truly believe that you HAVE TO find excitement in your life to live life to its fullest.  The feeling of being truly excited about things is what makes you feel alive.

However, it is a very fine line.

When you FORCE the issue of excitement and start trying to make excitement happen, you often end up in some dangerous situations.  Folks that pursue this kind of excitement are the “thrill seekers” that we see so often in the headlines.

And while it looks like they are having a ton of fun, our excitement thinking thrill seekers are often quite lost.  They are constantly searching for the next, best thing.  They are too often unaware that focusing on finding and embracing a passionate cause often is the only way to find excitement.   In almost all cases, these causes involve helping others.

Ironically, it is almost impossible to “force” or “find” that passionate cause.  Often, it only arrives when you embrace the mundane things that give OTHERS simple pleasures and quit chasing “me-centric” excitement.  A simple idea that is difficult to believe and embrace.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Do you want “thrill seeking, me-centric” excitement in your life or would you prefer “cause seeking, other-centric” excitement in your life?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
