Monday Morning Motivation – Rational
(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Rational
Over the last few years I have spent a lot of time studying and learning about relationships. Learning about what leads to a strong connection between individuals. For the month of October I’m going to take on the issue of connections. I’ll be talking about the effect of the emotional mind, the rational mind, and the wise mind. How validation ties all three of these together; and, finally, how when these four things come together successfully the result is that of connection. My hope is that at the end of the month, you will have a better understanding of why you think and act the way you do, why others think and act the way they do, and how to leverage this understanding to improve your relationships – personally, professionally, and spiritually.
Last week we took on the topic of the emotional mind. This week we turn our attention to the rational side of the mind. You know – the one that looks like Dr. Spock from Star Trek!
I joke about this, but when people think of the rational mind, they often go to the extreme of Spock. They go to the place of pure logic that is totally devoid of feelings.
That’s not quite the way the rational mind works. Each of us has a rational side to our mind. This is the side of our mind that operates when we are NOT triggered by our emotions. It’s the side of our mind that allows us to thoughtfully consider our situation and come up with a reasonable assessment and a reasonable course of action.
The rational side of our mind is wonderful. It’s also a HUGE liability. You see when we try and live ONLY in our rational side and NOT acknowledge the emotional; we normally end up in a mess as we are NOT Dr. Spock!
In my experience, we need to rely on our rational side to assess the situation and determine potential courses of action. However, only when we combine the rational and the emotional do we arrive at the place of wisdom (more on this next week!)
That brings me to this week’s question:
- Do you take the time to think things through with the rational part of your mind?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
