Monday Morning Motivation – Idols

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Idols

It seems that we are hard wired to want to believe in something.  To want to idolize something.

You can see the examples of this all around.  Just about every young boy has had a baseball, basketball, or football player that they idolize.  We have TV shows like the “American Idol” where we watch to see who will become the next celebrity that we idolize.  Some people stick much closer to home and make their kids their idol.  Others find their meaning and purpose in the workplace and make money or power an idol.

I would venture to say that very few – if any – of the above idols fill the need that we are looking for.  Earthly idols are transient, rarely satisfy for long, and all too often disappoint.

In my mind that is because these idols represent an external entity that we are looking to draw meaning or purpose from.  What I have come to believe is that meaning or purpose does not come via drawing FROM other people or things; but, rather meaning or purpose comes when we provide TO others.  It comes from being internally aligned with the right attitude, thoughts, and behaviors.

When we stop idolizing and start focusing on having a positive impact on the lives of those around us, things – for me at least – seem to turn out pretty darn well.

That leads me to this week’s question:

•    Are you ready to stop idolizing and start making an impact on the lives of others?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.

Curt

Blog post from this past week:

At F5 Financial Planning we focus on helping individuals and families find balance between faith, friends and family, fitness and finance.  We make sure that they have the financial freedom to enjoy those things in life that are important to them.  And while we believe the left-brain facts and data are critical; we work with our clients to get them in the right state of mind to focus on the goals they want to achieve.
