Monday Morning Motivation – Persistence
Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Persistence
For the next couple of months, I am going to draw motivation for my Monday Morning Motivation from Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art. You can find a summary of this awesome book here. This book is one of my all-time favorites as it takes on the topic of “resistance,” which you might think of as that strange force that makes it difficult to accomplish things in life. Pressfield does an awesome job of describing what resistance is, discussing how to overcome it, and framing it in the context of a larger power.
Sometimes you just cannot help but hit a brick wall. The difference between the amateur and the professional is that the professional continues to charge at the wall until they punch through.
Now some of you out there will no doubt think “how stupid.” HOWEVER, to a professional it is far from stupid. You see, the professional KNOWS that if they stay after their task at hand, they WILL break through the wall. They have no doubt. They persist despite the perceived height or thickness of the wall.
No doubt there are some walls that are too tall or too thick. However, in our area of expertise most of us have the ability to go through, over, or around the walls we encounter. We simply have to give it another go. And another. And another.
It is sometime painful during the process. However, afterwards the reward is difficult to explain to non-professionals
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Do you have the necessary persistence to go through, over, or around any walls that you encounter?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
