Monday Morning Motivation – Anxiety

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Anxiety
Anxiety is one of the scariest, most crippling things that can strike a human being. Taken to its extreme, it can have a PHYSICALLY DEBILITATING effect on ANY human being. It is incredibly powerful.
For that reason, I do my very best to avoid anxiety at all costs. Sometimes it is easier said than done. However, I have developed a few techniques over time that help me to deal with this ugly affliction when it starts to creep into my mind.
In fact, the first key is to always remember that anxiety is a feeling. It is NOT something external. It is something internal.
- Tip 1 – Recognize anxiety for what it is— a feeling.
Once I make the transition from “being anxious” to “feeling anxious,” I remember that I control my feelings:
- Tip 2 – Remember that you control how you feel.
Feelings, while incredibly powerful, are ultimately a choice. Hence, when I recognize that I am feeling uncomfortable, I focus on how I would prefer to feel:
- Tip 3 – Visualize/imagine/focus on how you would like to feel.
Will these three tips always take the anxiety away? Nope. BUT, what they will do is provide you with an explicit thought process that normally takes you away from thinking about what is making you anxious. You see that when you start focusing on your thought process, it distracts you from the source of anxiety. In essence, you have refocused your brain elsewhere. And, in so doing, you have regained some sense of control, which will normally minimize the feelings of anxiety.
That brings us to this week’s question:
-
Are you going to let anxiety have control of your mind, or would you prefer to take back control of your feelings?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
