Monday Morning Motivation – Vulnerability

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Vulnerability
There is perhaps not another word in the English language that is as powerful and important as vulnerability.
As a society, the US is built on the myth of “rugged individualism” and the concept of a “self-made man.” The reality is that we are strong BECAUSE we rely on each other. And we can only rely on each other when we know what we need from each other. And that means we have to show those areas where we need help. Those areas where we are less than ideal. Those areas where we are vulnerable.
The great lie is that “If I show weakness, I will get run over.” Poppycock. We all have our limitations —be it physically, emotionally, or spiritually. And when we try and “muscle through” on our own, the result is often ugly. Isolation is what the enemy looks for. When we are separated from others, we become an easy target.
Conversely, when we have the courage to show our true selves and open up about the areas where we need help, we find that others gather around us in support. It is through vulnerability that we forge the bonds of stronger relationships and, in so doing, become better together.
While I believe 100% what I have written above, this is NOT easy. Opening up to others about our weaknesses can be downright terrifying. It does come with risk. However, I believe 100% that the rewards that will come through opening up far outweigh the risks.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Have you embraced vulnerability in your life?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
