Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "service."

Service
About five years back, I was introduced to Rotary by Keith Druek. Keith is from New York, was a merchant marine, and has his own construction company. If you don’t know Keith, you might be put off by his boldness and directness. However, if you spend even a bit of time with him, you quickly realize that he has a servant’s heart. He is always looking for ways to help others.
Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self.” To go along with the motto, they have developed what is known as the “Four Way Test”:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Through my affiliation with this outstanding organization, I’ve had the chance to better understand the concept of service and, in turn, have become much better at service.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What act of service will you perform this week?
