Monday Morning Motivation – Routine

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "routine."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Routine
There are two ways to look at routine:
- The things you do regularly / Your habits
- Things which come easily to you
It’s really interesting when I break these down. For me, routine carries the connotation of “easy.” However, when I think of “habits”, my mind turns to those areas where I need to improve—like eating fewer sweets!
Some would say that I’m taking a “half-empty” versus a “half-full” perspective in focusing on my poor habits. After all, I DO have a number of habits that ARE routine and are extremely positive. I accept this criticism fully. However, I’m a firm believer that we learn more from our mistake than we do from our successes. Scars hang around.
Here’s the thing, we get to choose our routine. The challenge comes in that, by definition, routine is “normal” and, therefore, changing it is abnormal—and VERY difficult. Fortunately, we each have an incredible power within us to change. I am 100% convinced that the mind can do things beyond what we can comprehend.
Over time, I expect scientists to show us capabilities that reside within each of us that we cannot even imagine. We can change our routine, and, over time, new pathways will form in our brain, and what seems awkward and uncomfortable now will then become routine.
The challenge for each of us is whether we are willing to make the changes to break the routine. What I’ve found is the more I accept this challenge, the easier it is to repeat the cycle of breaking the routine. Over time, this has allowed me to learn and adapt more quickly—in most areas!
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Are you willing to change your routine?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
