Monday Morning Motivation – Pervasive

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "pervasive."
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others who you think would benefit from the content.
Pervasive
It is interesting how, over time, things that were once incredibly rare become normal and accepted . . . Cell phones at the dinner table, poor manners, inappropriate content on TV. They become pervasive.
Equally interesting to me is how many of these pervasive things are—in general— thought of negatively by a large part of the population, and yet STILL they are accepted, even embraced. They have become pervasive.
I am not trying to/willing to make the case that when/if something becomes pervasive, that it is “by definition bad”; however, I AM looking to make the case that if something has become pervasive, we need to evaluate (i) the purpose it serves and (ii) who is pushing for it to become more pervasive.
In many cases, when I put the pervasive items through these two lenses, I see that those who are pushing for the concept have a different worldview than I do, AND the purported value is not as easily agreed upon by everyone. That is OK. Differences in worldview are fundamental to the foundation of the USA.
However, what is not OK is to FORCE your view on me just because this particular worldview has become pervasive. It is up to me to decide what and when I embrace things in my life. Unfortunately, political correctness is becoming more and more pervasive and, in the process, taking away my choices. And that’s a bad thing—in my opinion.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What has become pervasive in your life?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
