Monday Morning Motivation – Role

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "role."
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others who you think would benefit from the content.
Role
Roles are pervasive in society/our lives:
- He’s a role player.
- She got the role of XYZ.
- Your role on this team is ABC.
- Your role is that of a parent.
- Your role is that of a child.
Each of us has numerous personal and professional roles. When it comes to roles, we often think of being “cast” in the roles. By cast, we think of someone choosing us—or ALLOWING us—to act in that role. In my opinion, that’s not how we should think of roles. Instead, I prefer:
- I get to choose the roles I play in life.
Now the skeptics out there are going to point out that we REALLY don’t get to choose all the roles. They argue that many of the roles are thrust upon us. While I disagree that “many” roles are thrust upon us, I will concede that there are RARE OCCASIONS where I feel that a role has been forced upon me. In those situations, I embrace another related principle:
- I get to choose how I play out every role in life.
Choosing our roles—and choosing how to play out these roles—is critical for us to avoid falling into the trap of “victimhood.” We have choices that we can and should make.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What role do you want to live out personally and professionally?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
