Monday Morning Motivation – Unselfish

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "unselfish."

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Unselfish

Today, in looking through Mr. Ziglar’s list of key traits that are critical in our migration from success to significance, we come to the concept of being unselfish.

In my mind, “unselfish” is one of the biggest—if not THE biggest—on his list. That is because the concept of being unselfish is directly tied to the concept of love. NO, not the romantic, passionate sort of love! Rather the sort of love that put another’s needs in front of your own.

A basic tenet of Christianity is that you should love others vis-à-vis putting their needs in front of your own. This one is SO easily said, but SO DIFFICULT to do! That’s because, like it or not, we all have a natural tendency to look at what we want versus what others want. We all are born with a tendency to be selfish.

Doubt that? Take a look at a newborn and get back to me if you still have doubts!!!

However, imagine what the world might look like if more of us were actually able to achieve this aspirational vision. If we were able to TRULY put others’ needs in front of our own 100% of the time. No, it likely will never happen—either in the world as a whole or in our own corner of the world. However, it is an aspirational vision that holds incredible potential. And even if we only get 90% of the way there, we are still making massive progress in our journey.

Being unselfish is absolutely essential in our migration from success to significance. We move to significance as we take the HUGE step to consciously put our focus on others—as we begin to more naturally focus on being less and less selfish.

Extremely easy to say. Extremely hard to do!

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • What can you do today to put the needs of others in front of your own?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
