Monday Morning Motivation – Reading

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day. Today we discuss “reading”.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Reading

(NOTE – For the next six weeks, I’m going to focus on each of Hal Elrod’s “SAVERS” in sequence. If you are curious about the background for these topics, take a few minutes to check out the summary of his book “The Miracle Morning”. It’s one of the best I have ever read!)

In the previous four weeks we have touched on silence (meditation), affirmations, visualization and exercise. These steps focused on what I like to think of as the “fundamentals” of fitness for our mind and body. Today our attention turns to the “advanced course” – reading.

Growing up there was a campaign that stated “reading is fundamental”. How right it was/is!

Through reading we are able to share in the experiences of others. We are able to learn from their successes and failures. There is probably no other action that you can take to improve yourself than to read.

And yet, all too many fail to read.

A quick google of “statistics on reading” reveals a number of facts that are absolutely appalling. The basic message is that there is a direct correlation between the amount people read and their personal, professional, and financial growth.

While my preference in reading material turns to non-fiction works related to the above three areas (personal, professional, financial), reading of any sort will help you grow as an individual.

Of all of the challenges in “The Miracle Morning”, committing to reading as part of my morning routine was the easiest. In fact, it actually is TOO easy in that I sometimes get so caught up in my daily reading that I fail to get down to the business at hand!

My challenge to you this week is:

  • Are you taking time to read each day?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.

Curt
