Monday Morning Motivation – Compounding

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss compounding.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Compounding
Albert Einstein is known for his response to the question: "What is man’s greatest invention?"
His answer:
- Compound Interest
He went so far as to call compound interest the “8th Wonder of the World.”
As an engineer, I don’t find this particularly fascinating or surprising. But I do find the process of compounding—anything and not just interest—incredibly powerful.
When we speak of compounding, we speak of building upon each gain that we make. If we lose a pound EVERY week for a year, we end up 52 pounds lighter at the end of the year. If we do one more push up every morning, we end up doing 365 pushups on December 31st. If we start at 100% and improve by 1% every week, we end up at an output of 167% at the end of the year.
It is NOT the small gain that makes the difference. It is the REPEATED small gains BUILDING ON EACH OTHER that make the difference. The challenge is to have the discipline to make the daily step to capture the compound effect.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Do you have the discipline to capture the benefits of compounding?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
