Monday Morning Motivation – Confrontation

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "confrontation."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Confrontation
Things do not always go right in life. And, along with this, we are not always going to get along with others. This means that we are going to get into situations where confrontation is a reality. Unfortunately, many individuals are down-right terrified when it comes to confrontation and, accordingly, avoid it all together. Avoiding confrontation is incredibly unhealthy and destructive to your personal and professional relationships!
Confrontation – a better outcome
Now mind you, taking a “bull in the china shop” approach to confrontation is RARELY, IF EVER, the right approach. However, in a confrontational situation, what almost always leads to a better outcome is this: stepping forward, addressing the issue professionally and politely, identifying alternatives, and deciding on the best course of action for all individuals involved.
The challenge of confrontation
The challenge comes in facing the emotions that are often associated with confrontational situations—when things go poorly/badly hurt feelings are often present. And that presents a potential “powder keg” environment.
With practice, it becomes easier
While there are some that are naturally skilled at defusing confrontation, most of us are not so gifted. As a result, we need to “practice” vis-à-vis stepping up to the challenge when it presents itself. It can, and does, get easier with time.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Are you avoiding confrontation?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
