Monday Morning Motivation – Dependence

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "dependence."

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Dependence

Last week, I wrote about humility. In that post, I highlighted 5 keys concepts to focus on as we grow in our understanding and experience of humility: dependence, respect, supernatural, virtue, and living. Over the next few weeks, I’ll offer some thoughts on several of these key traits. Hopefully, this series will be at least somewhat helpful to us as we journey forward into each week!

One of the biggest myths out there is that you must focus on being a self-made, strong, independent man (or woman). While I agree 100% that you need to be ABLE to stand on your own, the concept that tags along with this myth is that you do NOT need anyone else. How arrogant!

Dependence on others is NOT a sign of weakness. We are made to be in relationships—with others and with God. When we don’t acknowledge this, we go down a path of isolation. And that can lead to bad things.

Dependence on others is the recognition that we are stronger together than alone. It is the recognition that we all have skill sets that are unique and complimentary. It is an acknowledgement that there is strength in community. Again, I am NOT saying that you need to be UNABLE to stand on your own—only that you are much healthier when you allow others into your life and build/strengthen your relationships.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Do you need to reconsider your perspective on dependence on others?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt

(NOTE – Count on seeing other aspects discussed in upcoming weeks of MMM.)
