Monday Morning Motivation – Forgive

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "forgive."
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.
Forgive
You do not need to forgive others as there is another option:
- Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die – Unknown Author
If you choose this route, please reach out and let me know how that’s going for you—or not!
Some may find the above quote a bit extreme. I don’t think so. We all have a choice on the thoughts we allow into our mind, as well as the thoughts we keep in our mind. And yet, when others “do us wrong,” it often hurts—not in the physical sense, but in the mental sense. The pain lingers on in our mind and can dominate our existence. Not fun.
The key to getting past the pain is to let it go. To forgive. One of the best descriptions I have found of what it means to forgive/offer forgiveness is as follows:
- A conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness.
While the above is easy to write, it is hard to execute:
- It requires CONSCIOUS EFFORT.
- It requires LETTING GO.
- It requires HARBORING NO ILL WILL.
- It requires all this to be done IN SPITE OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THE OTHER PARTY.
Man, that’s a tall order!
But it’s worth it. I sincerely hope you have experienced true forgiveness, as the power associated with it is amazing!
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Who or what do you need to forgive?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
