Monday Morning Motivation – Comparison

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Comparison
Newsflash. You are never going to be Michael Jordan. Or anyone else for that matter. I am guessing most who read that are going to respond with a thought of “I know.”
And yet, every day, many of us will regret that some area of our life is not “more like” someone else’s. Comparison can be an incredibly destructive path that leads to extreme unhappiness. And, unfortunately, the rapid flow of information in today’s society has made it much, much more common. We are led to believe that we need to have/be more, better, or bigger because others have more, better or bigger.
For me, the antidote to this nasty affliction has been gratitude. Gratitude for living in a wonderful country. Gratitude for all of life’s experiences. Gratitude for the people in my life. Gratitude for the little things. Gratitude for the big things— like God’s love and mercy. I could go on and on—and sometimes I do when I write in my gratitude journal! For me, when I am reflecting on the things I am grateful for, I find myself much less likely to fall into the comparison trap.
That brings us to this week’s question:
-
Will you choose gratitude or comparison this week?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
