Monday Morning Motivation – Providence

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Providence
There are some words that I have heard over and over again in my lifetime but that I have never taken the time to look up and/or understand. Providence is one of those words. As is typically the case, I start with Mr. Webster in my research:
- The protective care of God or of nature as a spiritual power
Two things struck me as I reviewed the above definition. First, is the concept of “protective care.” So many times in my life, I have been the recipient of protective care IN SPITE of my own stupidity. I am 100% convinced that providence exists based on my personal experiences!
Second, like so many things in life, I was struck by a definition that offered a path for believers and also for non-believers. This duality has always fascinated me; and, frankly, it is one of the things that has helped me to believe in God. At the end of the day, believing requires faith. And faith is EASY when there is only a single alternative—but it’s actually NOT faith if it is the ONLY option.
By suggesting that providence is either from God OR from nature, it allows each of us to decide on what we believe. For me, too many things have lined up too perfectly to deny the existence of God. However, I fully respect the rights of each individual to draw his or her own conclusions. I do always encourage folks to question what they believe—questioning is healthy and, in my opinion, builds up rather than tears down faith.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What have your experiences with providence taught you about your beliefs?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
