Monday Morning Motivation – Why

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Why

Today I am going to highlight an idea that comes from Simon Sinek.

How many times have you met someone only to face the question:

  • What do you do?

How about if you answer this question a bit differently the next time it comes up…

Simon Sinek’s book “Start with Why” suggests that people really are not that interested in WHAT we do, until they understand WHY we do it.  Think about that for a moment.

Most of the time we talk about what we do, then how we do it, and maybe – albeit not likely – we finally get to why we do it.

Whether you are a butcher, baker, or candle stick maker, people really aren’t that concerned about what you do.  In fact, whether you are butcher, baker, or candle stick maker your technical skills probably are not that extraordinarily different than you others in your industry.  But the why behind what you do is uniquely you.  It’s that why that makes you unique.  It’s the thing that makes you memorable.  It’s the thing that allows you to deliver value to others in your own unique manner.

For me, my why is as follows:

  • I believe that everyone should have the financial means available to them to pursue what is important to them – personally or professionally.  I have a knack with numbers and problem solving.  I do what I do because it helps people to achieve that financial freedom.  Because it allows them to do what is important to them

My challenge to you today is:

  • Why do you do what you do?

BTW, if you like today’s idea, it is worth your effort to spend a bit of time watching Sinek’s TED talk video.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.

Curt
