Monday Morning Motivation – Patient
Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "patient."
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.
Patient
If there is one topic on the face of this earth that I am the absolute LEAST knowledgeable person in regards to, it has to be about being patient. My whole life I have been in a hurry. And that’s not always been a good thing!
All too often I have prayed:
- God, give me patience now.
For some, being patient comes easy. For others—again me at the top of that list—being patient is akin to a death sentence. Waiting for things is something I do not like—yes, I’m still a bit immature even at the age of 56!
Unfortunately, in today’s culture, being patient is NOT depicted as either necessary or desirable. The reality is that it is both.
When you are patient with another individual, you deliver a message to them, a message that says:
- I care more about what you want or need than what I want or need, and I am willing to give you the time (i.e., be patient) while I wait with patience for the right time.
This message conveys respect. And the presence of respect is both necessary and desirable in any/all relationships.
Now mind you, while I stand firmly behind the need for patience, I am NOT arguing that becoming more patient is easy. To the contrary, it is often extremely difficult.
Fortunately, when we demonstrate to others a willingness to be patient, we often find that the respect we give in so doing reduces the time we need to wait to get to the outcome that we hope or desire. This duality is present in so many areas of life— the harder we try, the less progress we make / the more we relax and accept things, the more things seem to fall into place.
When we embrace being more patient, it changes us, that changes others, and things generally work out much better for both parties. Coming to understand this concept has been extremely helpful to me.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What would it really cost you to be a bit more patient?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
