Unless – Monday Morning Motivation

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "unless."
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others who you think would benefit from the content.
Unless
I won’t do “X” UNLESS you do “Y.” Lame!
OK, while it’s lame, I freely admit that I have applied the above “logic” in WAY too many situations. As I thought about the topic for today, I could not help but reflect on how unloving this approach is.
In contrast:
- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Of all the verses in the Bible, these may be the most instructive, and it’s not surprising that they are often heard at weddings. While instructive, they are often ignored! We all want what WE want. We “love” to put conditions on things— which is ironic in that the above verses define love in terms of the unconditional!
Imposing the “unless” qualifier on others is NOT a good idea.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Where are you leaning on “unless” to avoid commitment?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
