Hello, I’m Josh Duncan with SCB News bringing you this edition of Financial Freedom. The purpose of Financial Freedom is to provide tips to help you achieve financial freedom for personal significance.

Recently my mastermind group met up in Nashville for our biannual event. During the event, we had a breakout session to discuss our beliefs about money and how they can hold us back from achieving financial freedom for personal significance.

How do you define personal significance?

What makes you feel important and impactful to the world around you?

For years, I was stuck in short-term thinking, focused only on my next paycheck. Thankfully, mentors helped me understand the importance of long-term goals and the value of planning.

Ask yourself:

  • What gives my life purpose?
  • How can financial freedom empower me to achieve that purpose?

Let these answers guide your journey.

Your Path to Financial Freedom

Rather than chasing arbitrary benchmarks like “saving a million dollars,” focus on the income needed now to live with significance and achieve your long-term goals.

Avoid the trap of keeping up with the Joneses. This never-ending race leads to dissatisfaction. Instead, define success on your own terms and let your goals drive your financial needs-not societal pressures.

Our Firm’s 4 Values: A Blueprint for Financial Freedom

These four core values have transformed how we approach finances. Use them to redefine your mindset and start building a healthier relationship with money.

Value #1: Intentionality

Challenge: Remove mental blocks about money.

  • Money is neither evil nor a scorekeeper-it’s a tool.
  • Embrace the mindset that money provides options and can be used for the greater good.

Value #2: Accountability

Challenge: Take ownership of your financial life.

  • Use tools like You Need a Budget (YNAB) or take a Dave Ramsey course to create sound strategies for managing your finances.

Value #3: Discipline

Challenge: Let long-term planning guide your decisions.

  • Practice discipline by sticking to your cash flow plans and maintaining a balance sheet.
  • Lean on trusted partners-your spouse, financial advisor, or business partners-for accountability.

Value #4: Courage

Challenge: Implement systems and behaviors for financial success.

  • Identify daily, weekly, and monthly actions that will push you toward your goals.
  • Start small: Choose one system or behavior and commit to it.

Keep Your Values in Focus

It’s easy to lose track of your goals amidst daily chaos. Personally, I revisit these values regularly to stay grounded. Remember: Failing is part of the process. When you veer off track, course correct and realign with your goals.

Money is simply a tool to help you achieve significance.

Thank you for joining me in this edition of Financial Freedom. I’m Josh Duncan, Financial Advisor with F5 Financial Planning, and I’m here to help you achieve financial freedom for personal significance.
