Monday Morning Motivation – Happiness

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Happiness

While almost all of us know what it means to be in a state of happiness, we don’t all agree on what that state is or on how to define it. However, I recently came across an idea that is HUGE when it comes to living a life of happiness. Here it is:

  • The act of seeking one’s own happiness is a significant obstruction to experiencing it.

Read it again. Now think about it. If you’re focusing all of your time asking yourself if you are happy—and what you need to do to be happy and trying to be happy—chances are you are pretty darn miserable!

If you are asking these sorts of questions, you are focusing on the outcome (happiness) and not on the journey (living life). Furthermore, if you are spending all the time focusing on whether you are happy (selfishness), you are likely NOT focusing on if the others around you are happy (generosity).

The above idea suggests that rather than focusing on “happiness” per se, you would be much better focused on living life and refocusing your efforts on others.

And when your focus shifts to experiencing the moment and spending it meaningfully with others, you find yourself in a great place with relationships that are full. And that, my friends, IS a pretty solid recipe for happiness.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you spending too much time seeking happiness and too little time enjoying where you are at currently?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
