What do you need to finish?

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement-along with a good cup of coffee!-to start the day. Today we discuss "finish."

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Finish

Starting things is easy. Finishing things is hard. But, if you don't finish, often you don't accomplish all that you can or should.

We're launching into a new year this week. MANY folks will be creating lists of resolutions on what they want to accomplish. VERY few will actually complete these lists. That's because they won't put in the hard work necessary to get to the finish line.

Finishing requires:

  • A clear vision of the desired end state
  • A defined path to get to the end point
  • A process/routine to "course correct" / "stay on path"
  • The discipline to stay focused all the way through the finish

What's interesting is that each of the above four steps is "easy" to do for a single moment BUT extremely challenging to do day after day. I'd argue that the above are very elementary, BUT that taken together they are complex.

  • Elementary - easy to understand on their own
  • Complex - Taken together they are very challenging

Finishing is definitely complex!

Personally, I come back REPEATEDLY to the following insight from Jim Rohn:

  • We must all deal with one of two pains. The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

When I focus on the discipline side, I'm much happier LONGTERM. Unfortunately, the whole pain thing has me often avoiding keeping focused.

That brings us to this week's question:

  • What do you need to finish?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
