After a long winter, April finally gave us some nice weather and the opportunity to get back outdoors. I managed to get back on the links and also spend a few days on the water. For me, golf and fishing allow me time to relax, unwind, and let the brain reset. Hopefully you have some sort of activity that serves the same function in your life.
In this month's newsletter we discuss the amazing ability that investors have to NOT learn from history, and highlight two great books. The first, The War of Art, is from Steven Pressfield and goes over the struggle we all face with "resistance". This is one of my all time favorite books and you'll come away from the book summary understanding that the challenges you face are universal. The second is an "oldie but goody". Dale Dauten's The Gifted Boss goes over a few simple concepts that are key to building an environment that attracts the right kind of talent. The summary is only one page, but there is a ton of wisdom packed in from Daulten

The War of Art - Steven Pressfield
- While I am not ready to nameSteven Pressfield's The War of Art my all-time favorite book, it has definitely claimed a spot in the top three. We all struggle with the challenge of starting and staying with tasks. Pressfield digs in to why this is the case, what we can do to overcome what he calls "the resistance", and finally frames the struggle to stick with those things important to us in the context of our relationship to a higher power in life.(read more here)

Scale
Why is it that some ideas catch on and seemingly travel around the world at the speed of light?
Why is it that some organizations are able to spread around the world?
Why is it that some individuals have an impact well beyond that of others?
The answer is "scale". In order for an idea, a company, or an individual to have a broader impact, they need to figure out how to scale. How to turn one in to ten. Ten in to one hundred. One hundred to one thousand. But before they CAN scale, they need to decide they WANT to scale.
Scaling is not easy. It requires a clear vision, hard work, and the willingness to face the resistance – both internal and external -- that will emerge as you struggle to scale. However, for most of us the journey will be worth the effort; and, besides, Jim Rohn shares why we MUST look to scale:
