Some words are challenging to define, but well understood by almost everyone.  Respect certainly falls in to this category.

People's need for respect – be it for their way of life, their religion, their family, their country, or any other area – is so strong that its absence often manifests itself in serious social conflict.  When people think of respect, they actually think of those things that they value dearly.  It's this "close to the heart" phenomenon that makes respect such an important issue.

Each and every day we all have multiple interactions with many individuals.  These interactions set the tone for our lives and dictate how all of us feel and perform both at home and at work.  My challenge to each of you is to take a look at the respect you afford – with both your words and your actions – those you encounter over the next week...
